Vegetation

Kanha National Park is set within the Maikal range of the Satpura hills, where a rich mosaic of habitats creates one of Central India’s most diverse landscapes. Expansive grasslands and open meadows are interspersed with dense sal forests, bamboo thickets, and seasonal streams that sustain a thriving ecosystem.

The dominant vegetation is characterised by towering sal trees, complemented by a variety of species such as saja, lendia, dhawda, tendu, and palash. These varied habitats support a high density of herbivores and, in turn, a healthy population of predators.

This diversity of vegetation is what gives Kanha its distinctive rhythm — from open, light-filled meadows to shaded, silent forest interiors.
